BONDING OR WHITE FILLINGS
In the past when a child fractured a tooth we were only able to restore the tooth with a crown. This meant that we had to reduce to tooth in size and place a crown over the "stump" of the tooth to repair it. Depending on the age of the child this crown woould have to be redone as the tooth continued to erupt.
With today's modern bonding techniques and composite materials we are able to restore the tooth without a crown.
The main restrictions when restoring a fractured tooth by bonding and composites is that the child needs to take certain precautions so the material will not fracture. The patient needs to avoid biting into anything real hard, (Hard candy, Ice cubes, etc.) and refrain from biting on objects and pulling with the repaired tooth as the material may break.
