TOOTH DECAY
The earlier a cavity is detected the easier it is to restore the tooth. The smaller the cavity is at the time of restoration the less tooth structure needs to be removed, the restoration has more natural tooth for support, there is less discomfort for the child, less expense for the parent and a longer lasting restoration.
When decay goes undetected or is ignored after diagnosis the decay can progess to the point where root canal therapy is needed, crowns are needed or the tooth may have to be extracted and a space maintainer placed.
